Week 27: April 8–11

What’s Due This Week

On the Horizon

On Tues./Wed. (Lesson 64), we discuss our reading of the short story Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin. We end the lesson with a formal introduction to the next step of the American Author project: Writing Assignment #8: American Author Thesis Proposal and a mini-lesson of thesis statement tips. The next short story, Ernest Hemingway’s “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”, is assigned for next class.

On Thurs./Fri., we anticipate the fast-approaching end of the third quarter—next week on April 18—by reviewing assignment progress reports. We continue practice of evaluating and developing thesis statements. We discuss the concept of literary style, focusing on the example of Hemingway’s “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.

Next week is the last week of the quarter; you need to spend some time this week taking stock of the status of and your performance on the major assignments of the quarter:

Passing the course for the quarter requires that your blog is up and in decent shape, and that you’ve completed WA#7: Gatsby Persuasive Book Review and WA#8: Thesis Proposal. Review your blog link and make sure it’s working. The quarter ends on Friday, April 18.
