Week 20: January 26–30

During our first week of the new semester, some time is devoted to wrapping up the last. On Tuesday we run our usual workshop in which you review your performance over the last semester and determine the grade you’ve earned for that performance. See the Course Doc First Semester Course Grade for the procedure on how to determine your grade.

I am submitting grades on Thursday and will accept missing assignments until then. Key assignments that will trigger a No Credit if they are still missing on Thursday include WA#4: Heart of Darkness Essay and WA#5: Xlandia White Paper.

On Monday we study the poetic structure of Dante’s Inferno in both the original Italian and in translation. Introduced terms for which you are responsible include rhyme scheme, terza rima, stanza, couplet, tercet, quatrain, and iambic pentameter.

Tuesday is our semester grade workshop.

Wednesday begins a new short Goverment unit on the U.S. Constitution. Before reading the actual Constitution, we spend time looking at its structure and inferring some of the Framers’ intentions.

Thursday you are introduced to Writing Assignment #6: Inferno Literary Essay. Bring materials for quiet independent work; I will be using most of class time to have individual conferences with you on your semester grade.

On Friday, we climb deeper into our unit on the U.S. Constitution.
