Week 17: January 14–18

On Monday (Lesson 43), we continue American Author presentations that we did not finish last week.

On Tuesday/Wednesday, Writing Assignment #6: American Author Proposal is formally introduced. It is due at the end of next week.

In addition, we sign into Think.com, an educational website that we will use as a discussion board during your reading of your Bill Nye book.

Tuesday/Wednesday is also be a writing workshop. This is your opportunity to revise and finalize the major writing assignments of the semester. Your semester grade is largely based on the final quality of:

• WA#5 – History IRP
• WA#4 – Song of Solomon Literary Analysis
• WA#3 – Moving Voices Narrative
• WA#2 – Personal Statement

The door is open for revising all of these works. You will be able to use class time as you see fit to improve these pieces; meanwhile, I will be conducting focused writing instruction and coaching through both large-group exercises and individual writing conferences.

In order for this time to be productive for you, you need to bring the following to every class in the coming weeks:

• access to electronic files of your writing assignments, so you may edit with school laptops
• hard copies of your writing assignments in case you are not able to work with your files digitally
• a serious, focused, and academic working attitude
• a realistic expectation about the limits of our wireless technology (so, again, be prepared to work with pen and paper)

On Thursday/Friday (Lesson 45), Bill Nye groups make formal proposals to the class of their book choices and reading schedules.
