American Author Paper: Final Submission Instructions

By 4pm on Friday, May 30, you should submit a final printed draft of your American Author paper to Mr. Wells.

Your printed submission must include a checklist and a reflection. Assemble all items with a paper clip or folder in the following order:

  1. the submission checklist, signed and dated by you
  2. the paper itself, including the bibliography, stapled together
  3. your reflection on your growth as a writer (details below)

Reflection on Your Growth as a Writer

Reflect on this question: How does this paper represent your growth as a writer and re-writer?

Address both your technical writing abilities as well as your abstract thinking abilities. Is your sentence style growing more varied and sophisticated (refer to the writer’s toolbox I handed out)? Are you writing more tightly? Are your arguments more persuasive? Is your literary analysis becoming more complex?

Quote your own writing to illustrate your points. Pick at least two excerpts—one from an earlier draft of your paper, one from the final draft—to demonstrate the evolution of your rewriting and critical thinking skills.

Lastly, you might discuss where you are headed as a writer. What is the next step for you? What are your goals for next year?

Your reflection should run about a page, double-spaced.
